Trail101 - How to handle trail game less then 1 month.

Actually agak interesting bila ramai PM aku tanya how to handle trail game for last minute training. Means ada training tapi tak cukup. Kalau yang xda training or baru nak start walaupon game lagi 2 minggu, all d best la aku ucapkan. So aku share sikit ilmu sihir yang pernah aku belajar dari kisah dan pengalaman. Tapi no guarantee la sbb it maybe work for me but not for u.

So let me share some regime yang aku buat masa survive UTHK100 few years back. Aku put more on STRENGTH training. Yup, aku buat 4 kali seminggu. Some gym and some heavy bodyweight exercise. Aku loss a lot of weight masa ni. This really help dimana my body really ready for the pain and package.

I did speed with elevation 2 days a week. Selalu dkt Broga je turun naik sampai menyampah. Aku xke nuang, sbb track dia panjang. Aku prefer short and tajam + technical sikit. Aku xda lari dekat “park” or stadium masa ni. And last, aku did at least one long hike in 24hours. Selalu aku akan naik mana2 gunung yg agak tinggi for daypack. This to get my mental ready.

Alhamdulillah aku survive not one game but 2 100km game back to back at that time (UTHK100 and TranLantau100).

Trail ni kene tau basic rules dia. Jalan lurus run walk, climb fast hike, downhill run (for non technical). Jangan le jalan je all the way. Bila nak sampai kan. And trail runner (actually fast walker mcm aku) ni kene tau we are using difference muscle group bila dalam trail. So doing road/park run (for training) will not really help unless kita nakkan “easy” mileage. Ni pendapat aku, boleh jadi salah sbb aku bercakap dari kisah2 lama and pengalaman sejengkal yang aku ada.

Beside ada trail yg datang dengan technicality. Ada kene climb 90 darjah, panjat akar, bergantung pada tali, climb xhabis2 (like MUTF for 6km climb non stop), lintas sungai, jatuh tersepak akar, masuk lumpur, terlangkah binatang bisa, kene sengat tebuan, hujan lebat, lecah, air turun macam waterfall dari track dan macam2. Body condition kene betul2 ready. There is a game yang aku pernah enrol, kasut and baju xsempat kering tau in 100km. Hujan all the way.

So effort for the game kene tiptop kalau nak main trail ni. Banyak perkara kene study dan tgk sebelum terjebak. Training kene simulate dgn game scenario and condition. Kalau main 2000m gain, kene training dengan effort 2000m gain.

So all the best pada yang buat any trail game soon. One more thing, trail game ni kalau nak dnf, xda uber akan amek kita dekat tengah track, kene keluar sediri dari track. So kalau rasa mcm cukup2 makan je “bekal training”, bawak semua keperluan tambahan like extra food, baju ujan, headlamp etc. Incase lambat keluar at least kita boleh survive sendiri.

Remember, tips is just a tips. Taknak ada masalah, lepas enroll patut terus plan dah trainingkan. There is no shortcut. So again Selamat Maju Jaya.
